Global Redesign Institute -- a digital think tank

TZM's broad actions could be summarized as to Diagnose, Educate and Create. (from TZM Orientation FAQ)

    Diagnose:
Diagnosis is “the identification of the nature and cause of anything.” To properly diagnose the causal condition of the vast social and ecological problems we have today is not merely to complain about them or criticize the actions of people or particular institutions. A true Diagnosis must seek out the lowest causal denominator possible and work to source at that level for resolution.
The central problem today is that there is often what could be called a “truncated frame of reference” where a shortsighted, misdiagnosis of a given consequence persists. For instance, the traditional, established solution to the reformation of human behavior for many so-called “criminal acts” is often punitive incarceration. Yet, this says nothing about the deeper motivation of the “criminal” and why their psychology led to such acts to begin with.
At that level, such a resolution becomes more complex and reliant upon the symbiotic relationship of their physical and cultural culmination over time. This is no different than when a person dies of cancer, as it isn't really the cancer that kills them in a literal sense, as the cancer itself is the product of other forces.

    Educate:
As an educational movement that operates under the assumption that knowledge is the most powerful tool/weapon we have to create lasting, relevant social change in the global community, there is nothing more critical than the quality of one's personal education and their ability to communicate such ideas effectively and constructively to others.
TZM is not about following a rigid text of static ideas. Such confined, narrow associations are typical of Religious and Political Cults, not the recognition of emergence that underscores the “anti-establishment” nature of TZM. TZM does not impose in this sense. Rather it works to make an open ended train of thought become realized by the individual, hopefully empowering their independent ability to understand its relevance on their own terms, at their own pace.
Furthermore, education is not only an imperative for those unfamiliar with the Train of Thought and Application Set related to TZM, but also for those who already subscribe to it. Just as there is no “utopia”, there is no final state of understanding.

    Create:
While certainly related to the need to adjust human values through education so the world's people understand and see the need for such social changes, TZM also works to consider how a new social system, based on Optimum Economic Efficiency, would appear and operate in detail, given our current state of technical ability.

Programs such as the Global Redesign Institute, which is a digital think tank that works to express how the core societal infrastructure could unfold based on our current state of technology, working to combine that technical capacity with the scientific train of thought so as to calculate the most efficient technical infrastructure possible for any given region of the world, is one example.
It is worth briefly noting that TZM's advocated “governance” approach, which has little semblance to the current manner of governance known today or historically, originates out of a multi-disciplinary bridging of various proven methods for maximum optimization, unified through a counter-balancing “Systems” approach that is designed to be as “adaptive” as possible to new, emerging improvements over time.
As will be discussed later, the only possible reference that could be considered “most complete” at a given time is one that takes into account the largest interacting observation (System) tangibly relevant. This is the nature of the cause and effect synergy that underscores the technical basis for a truly sustainable economy.

Will the Global Redesign Institute include development of "blueprint" of organization of society? With this I mean relations between people, their roles in society, motivation for performing various roles, mobility between various roles, education...? Also, will it include assessment of work requirements in various stages of technical transformation of society? After all, organization of society is also a kind of technical problem which would need to be solved...

Hi, I know this post is old, but I was wondering if anyone is managing the "Global Redesign Institute" project? I don't exactly have much experience in group work of this magnitude, but it is right up my alley. I'm currently studying mechatronics engineering, which is very focused on systems engineering.

You just have to locate the right box, here is a good place to start....
Nobody has any experience Redesigning a Globe. Do you have any ideas about how it may be managed?
I've mashed up a few here...
Neils idea of City in City is good but I thought a Global Redesign Laboratory could be inserted into some city and networked out from ground zero.
Completely modular, all components interchangeable/expandable/upgradeable, self sustaining - food/energy/education/communication, etc.

Pack it in a few forty foot containers and drop it down in Detroit or some other bankrupt metro area and research, connect, build and expand the network from there.....

FARM:shop, Dalston - Eat, drink, grow, work, play.
    A farm in a shop
20 Dalston Lane, once a derelict shop, is the world's first urban farming hub - a workspace, cafe and events venue packed to the rafters with living and breathing food - literally a farm in a shop.

We opened our doors in March 2011 and is on the way to becoming the meeting place of choice for London's food lovers and urban farmers aswell as a special place to rest your feet, have a coffee and smell the countryside next time you're down in Dalston.

What do you know when the time is up and the door to the box is opened?
It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness.

Well, if we have to work on the "Global Redesign Institute", one of the most important things is to first and foremost keep it simple... Many things can be designed from the bottom up, but this requires a certain kind of overview, therefore from the top down. Looking at the globe first, and the requirements. Then after that, we can start on the baseline system. The framework. Databases, etc, comes after the framework. Question is, is the framework in place? What is currently in the project?

Where to start Macro or Micro could be another question? The other thing is the I word, in my view it needs to go obsolete, "Institute"= Politics, Grant Grabs, and the rest of that cycle.

Instead of "Institute", Global Redesign Research/Lab, something else, Not the "I" word..

Institute = Not Simple Research/Lab = What is the Question = Simple = " Looking at the globe first, and the requirements."
and finding the right questions. Then, open it to the Global Group Mind to come up with the closest, best answer, until another better solution becomes available/developed.

To date the evolution of this "Global Redesign Institute" web presense is "Coming Soon"<link, and the "Global Redesign Institute" topic on the main TZM forum page.
After root'n around those boxes I see I have been an active participant here. All the topics revolve around the Redesign of the Globe, that is the point of this or any Movement, in my view...

one of the most important things is to first and foremost keep it simple..

keep it simple? Its the Giai System, not so simple, no?

A micro project I have in mind would be to drop a Globle Redesign Laboratory right down at the Saltan Sea

    Salton Sea

Just drop a lab off and prevent/benifet from this man made desaster, no "I" word required..

Map of the Salton Sea drainage area

The Salton Sea is a shallow, saline, endorheic rift lake located directly on the San Andreas Fault, predominantly in California's Imperial and Coachella Valleys.

The lake occupies the lowest elevations of the Salton Sink in the Colorado Desert of Imperial and Riverside counties in Southern California. Like Death Valley, it is below sea level. Currently, its surface is 226 ft (69 m) below sea level. The deepest point of the sea is 5 ft (1.5 m) higher than the lowest point of Death Valley. The sea is fed by the New, Whitewater, and Alamo Rivers, as well as agricultural runoff, drainage systems, and creeks.

The sea was created by the engineers of the California Development company in 1905. In an effort to increase waterflow into the area for farming, irrigation canals were dug from the Colorado River into the valley. Due to fears of silt buildup, a cut was made in the bank of Colorado River to further increase the water flow. The resulting outflow overwhelmed the engineered canal, and the river flowed into the Salton Basin for two years before repairs were completed, creating the sea.[1] While it varies in dimensions and area with fluctuations in agricultural runoff and rainfall, the Salton Sea averages 15 mi (24 km) by 35 mi (56 km). With an estimated surface area of 362 square miles (940 km2) or 376 square miles (970 km2), the Salton Sea is the largest lake in California.[2][3] The average annual inflow is 1,360,000 acre·ft (1,680,000 dam3), which is enough to maintain a maximum depth of 52 ft (16 m) and a total volume of about 7,500,000 acre·ft (9,300,000 dam3).

The lake's salinity, about 44 g/l, is greater than that of the waters of the Pacific Ocean (35 g/l), but less than that of the Great Salt Lake (which ranges from 50 to 270 g/l). The concentration increases by about 1% annually.[4]

At this point it's you and I and the rest is as described above...Links to some other things, sensor systems and the rest are within some of the topics on this forum...The

The Salton Sea would not have happened, if a resource model (water) was fully developed but there it is and there is no solution.
Just jump in and save So,Cal. Wake a few up at the same time.
Great Vid. Saw it before it was pay for...

I have expressed this experiment two. You are biased, can't start as a cynic, already weighted to one side so you should not be able to verify any other result than that of the cynic...When the time is up, you have already worked out the answer, it will be correct, cats in tight boxes would still be living ..

wow i have never thought i would say that, but detroit or stockton,ca could actually be a great place for this kind of expirement.
two bunkrupt cities that capitalism has failed, and would agree to expiriment with new stuff.
i also like to add that i'm generally surprised why relatively few poor people are attracted to the zeitgeist movement.
you would assume that poor minorities will naturally look for a different system and will gravitate away from capitalism.

You could say the world, as it is known now, began in Detroit. Could be a good place to demonstrate how to start over.
