1.5 Million Chinese Candidates Compete For 20,700 Civil Service Jobs
Today 1.5 Million Chinese Candidates Compete For 20,700 Civil Service Jobs | Zero Hedge
Can you imagine?
Whoever gets the job will not break any rules because they know 1000s of hungry people are waiting to take their job. So, it's elimination of corruption, at least.
What's your impression of this?
there was nothing in the post about hungry people, where did you get that?
people all over the world are looking for security and theres nothing more secure than a government job - government has no competition.
I think he's just saying that basically these jobs are Scarce. Once you land one, you submit to whatever is asked of you for Fear of ending up Homeless/Hungry like some of the people who didn't land this job. Great way of keeping people in Control and supporting the current Government/Economy.
I'm sorry, by "hungry" I was sensationalizing. They're hungry for work. In the trades, when someone underbids you, you say "they must be hungry to bid so low."

Trump wants to bring jobs back to america, but that just means people who care less about their work are going to be building things. Those people will also demand 10x more money.
This is a reason why I'm so much for Automation. Because we talk about Jobs like they are something people naturally want to be spending their days at. So much Mindless, Boring, Monotonous, Toxic time Wasted in peoples Lives. It's no wonder then why we get so much of this type of behavior.("you'll cut corners, work slow, take breaks, and care less about your work") LAZINESS....

alas .... add another one to the Great Book of 'Capitalism's Contradictions'.
That's the necessity of slavery (where underpaid workers count as slaves). When governments outlaw slavery or mandate the wages to be higher, then automation is the result because slavery must exist, it's just that the new slaves are robots.

The lack of a government defending the rights of workers stifles innovation. Ancient peoples didn't care too much about inventing machines to do work because people were too cheap (even though steam engines existed as novelties).
Three outcomes to Trump's plan:
1) Jobs come back to america, workers paid 10x more, prices rise 10x, the unemployed starve from high prices, quality goes down.
2) Jobs come back to america, automation replaces workers, prices stay low, but people still unemployed and saddled with debt.
3) Jobs come back to america, people agree to work for less rather than be unemployed (not likely).
The only real solution is to somehow transfer the wealth of the 1% down to the bottom. Either by taxation or by raising wages and then somehow capping prices such that the only means to pay the higher wages comes from the pockets of the 1%.
As long as the 1% are allowed to keep their wealth, there is no way to add wealth to the working class... unless maybe to print some new wealth, but that's negated by inflation. It's a zero-sum game. Wealth has to come from somewhere, er, I mean, someone.
If Trump wants to make america like it was in the 1950s (when it was great), then he has to put the tax code back the way it was. He has to undo what Reagan did. But he won't. The Boomers won't allow it. They LOVE Reagan! Actually, the Boomers would rather give the 1% another tax cut and even institute a flat tax so that the poor have to pay even more. The Boomers would gladly cut off their own nose to spite their face. Nothing substantial will change until that generation is gone.
Trump reminds me of Hoover. If history is a guide, then the consequent depression will usher in another FDR. That should coincide with the decline in the influence of the Boomer population. The Millennials are much more liberal and don't give two hoots about Reagan.
