    The Flat Earth Movement

Found an interesting video on Flat Earth:

"The earth is not spinning on a globe at 1039 MPH nor is earth 4.9 billion years old, absurdities that you were taught & which stemmed from the Masonic, Royal Society in London." - Dr. Lawrence Cohen, Ex Mossad Agent, U.S. Intelligence.

I first found out about this when someone posted something about it on the first TZM forum. Was it you, serenesam, that did that?

I think the problem is that people don't understand science, including some basic stuff. For example, in the following video this guy, who's talking about the shortest distance between Hawaii and Mexico, doesn't understand that the arc along a fixed latitude between two points is not the shortest distance, with the exception of the equator (skip to almost 46 minutes if it doesn't correctly take you there):

The shortest path, which is what the yellow line shows, is shorter than the 20 degree latitude arc path by about 13 miles. Here are the calculations:

I take Hawaii at West 155 degrees & Mexico at West 105 degrees to simplify things (theta = 50 degrees) & R is the radius of the Earth = 3,959 miles.

    Distance along 20 degrees latitude arc = R*theta*cos(20 degrees) = 3959*50*(3.1416/180)*0.9397 = 3959*(3.1416/3.6)*0.9397 = 3,247 miles

    Distance along great circle arc (the yellow line) = 2*R*arcsin(R*cos(20 degrees)*sin(25 degrees)/R) = 2*R*arcsin(cos(20 degrees)*sin(25 degrees))= 3959*2*arcsin(0.9397*0.4226) = 7918*0.4084 = 3,234 miles

As a Scientist and a Humanist, Lawrence Krauss often dispels fantasy for a living....Thank goodness we have him!!......Mee thinks...its Best to check our own 'facts' and assertions before engaging mouth or fingers.....IMHO....

Some may wish to seek out some of this Award Winning Scientist other words and conclusions.....As in life.....its always better, safer and less costly to 'measure twice and cut once'

Gotta wonder where the vid originated....that could be telling.....

    No, it wasn't.
