Question Proposal: 3D Printing Rapid Prototyping Chapter Co-operatives

Should TZM Chapters form co-operatives and invest in 3D printers to assist in the rapid global development of open hardware solutions to expose resource abundance?

I posed this question on TZMNetwork and got a relatively positive response(Should TZM Chapters form co-operatives and invest in 3D printers to assist in the rapid global development of open hardware solutions? | TZMNetwork), so now i'd like to put it to the forum.

Non-profit co-operatives can be set up with which chapters can give demonstrations, develop sustainable designs, develop the printers themselves, and spread the technology through the grass-roots levels of society, which should theoretically help it develop exponentially

i definitely think it could end up going big scale, but i think that at first there should be small steps. starting with repraps and the like, so that everyone gets a fundamental understanding of the tech...

these videos are great, thanks, but is someone at least willing to discuss the original question? i'm well aware of the rapidly growing 3D printing industry so i get all the potential. Which is why i think TZM chapters should ALL be helping develop the technology at grass-roots level, and using it to provide open hardware solutions to their local communities. I think it would be invaluable as an activism tool for spreading awareness about current technological capabilities on the planet.

It's already being done on a small scale. Zeitgeist Netherlands are opening a Zeitgeist Centrum in Hengelo with that exact purpose in mind. Education, demonstration (with 3D printing) and library.

TZM setting op non-profits themselves I haven't seen yet.

okay, fantastic... so why aren't all chapters doing something similar? i went to the chapters portal, looked under projects, and not a single thing listed... my local chapter (hundreds of km away) couldn't even get a z-day event together. what is the point of chapters if almost no-one makes effective use of them?
